Drywood vs. Subterranean Termites: Which One Is Eating Your House?
By Pantheon Pests · Updated 2026-09-17
Subterranean termites
They live in the soil and travel up through mud tubes on foundations. Treatment is a liquid soil barrier or bait stations around the perimeter.
Drywood termites
They live inside the wood itself and leave small hexagonal pellets. Localized treatments handle small colonies; fumigation is reserved for widespread infestations.
Inspections
A termite inspection checks the crawlspace, attic, exterior wood and any moisture problems, and produces a written report.
